The Association of Students and Professionals (APS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed in the city of East Los Angeles. Since its inception, APS was created to develop and strengthen existing community resources in the areas of higher education, social awareness, community health and financial literacy. Through partnerships between high school students, college students and professionals, APS focuses on creating community projects that have long-lasting social benefit to low-income communities.
APS is divided into several committees, managed by a Board of Directors and overseen by an Executive Director. Presently, committees are comprised of members from communities served by APS and topically represent professional development in the legal, business, architecture, health, education, communication and technology fields.
APS functions primarily through localized community projects developed by each respective committee and focused on benefiting a targeted community. Such projects have included Immigration Rights workshops, Financial Literacy seminars and First Time Home Buyer programs in several cities throughout California. Additionally, APS hosts bi-annual national and regional professional development conferences. Recent conferences have been held throughout Southern California in cities including but not limited to: Escondido, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Redlands, California.
Today, APS boasts a membership of over 400 students and professionals throughout the Southern California area. Community projects developed by APS have provided practical knowledge and awareness to over 1,000 community members that had been virtually non-existent in their respective communities. In the coming years, APS looks forward to continuing to work and grow alongside its community.
