Past Projects

Kids Conferences

Our first two Kids conferences took place in the East Los Angeles region where several neighboring cities were invited to participate as well. This particular conference took place on December 10, 2005 and had an estimated 250 children in attendance. The following one took place on March 18, 2006 from 10:00-4:00 and had an extraordinarily high attendance of over 400 children. The last conference took place in the San Diego region on March 25, 2006 from 10:00am-4:00 pm where other local cities were also invited and where we experienced a great turnout of over 200 children.

The purpose of doing these kids conferences is to use our educational knowledge to motivate the children towards achieving higher education. To make them aware of important issues such as respect, abuse and their health; in addition to make their day exciting by having a fun fair at the end.

Financial Aid workshop

Feb. 3, 2006

Our subsequent goal was to offer financial aid workshops before the FAFSA deadline. The educational workshops on financial aid and scholarships took place in ten different cities throughout southern California. These multiple workshops were held by financial aid counselors from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and were offered to high school and college students.

ESL Classes

March 13, 2006 - Nov. 12, 2006

In partnership with Garfield Community Adult School and Los Angeles Unified School District, the Education Committee established a free ESL (English as a second language) class that was offered to the community of East Los Angeles. The classes began on March '06 and had an average attendance of 25 students; mostly females from the ages of 20 to 65 years of age. The classes offered the students the opportunity to learn a new language and better prepare themselves. In order to accomplish this, the students took a placement test that placed them according to their level and needs. Free child care was also offered allowing the students to focus on their studies.

Por La Salud de ELA Health Fair

July 28, 2007

The Education Committee participated in the 2nd Annual Health Fair "Por la Salud de ELA" by putting up different booths targeting mainly the children that attended the health fair. Some of these booths included face painting, achieve your dreams, arts and crafts, and reading time, where children were able to read stories and take many books home. Games were also organized for the youth and prices were given by the sponsors to raffle to those who attended the Health Fair.
