Los Angeles, California — More than 1,000 participants attended the third annual “Por La Salud de East L.A.” Health Fair on Saturday July 26th, 2008. The fair, sponsored by the Association of Professionals and Students, sought to continue to address health care issues in lower income families by offering a number of free health services to the East Los Angeles community.

Over 30 different healthcare vendors presented information to children and parents alike concerning such topics as children’s nutrition, diabetes, blood pressure, medical and health insurance, among others. Still others offered BMI checks, nutrition consultation and blood sugar tests at no cost whatsoever.

Participating vendors included: Project Futuro, 1-800 DENTIST, AltaMed Health Services, Antonio Sustaita Dental Office, Atlantic Family Dental, Center for Health Care Rights, L.A. City, Department of Aging, ELARA, East Los Angeles Library, Eastside Family Medical Associates, Health Net / Healthy Families, Kaiser Permanente, L.A. Clinical Research Inc., Living Forever,, County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation, Maged M. Faragalla M.D. Family Practice, Mednik Pharmacy & Medical Supplies, Molina Healthcare, Secure Horizons, Achieve your Dream, Quick Health, and Farmacia Remedios.

Children enjoyed face painting, book readings and hopscotch, provided by the organization’s education committee volunteers. With the arrival of the Los Angeles County firefighters, many also got the opportunity to happily board the firefighter’s truck.
