Health Radio
On May 11th, the Health Committee appeared on the show, to speak to the community about the dangers of high cholesterol levels. They were joined by Dr. Alitia Mendoza, UCLA Medical School graduate, and currently practicing in Guadalajara, Mexico. The show could be deemed no less than successful, since the panel of speakers was very passionate about informing the community of the metropolitan area of Los Angeles through the airwaves, and to the rest of the world via our website, about the risks of high cholesterol.
“Our goal is to assess the needs of our community and inform and educate it based on those needs,” said Ana Rosa Villarruel, Chair of the Health Committee. Coupled with the experience of Dr. Mendoza, this candid and knowledgeable team of students and professionals carried out their mission for this broadcast.
Covering everything from prevention to lowering already high cholesterol levels, they even illustrated actual damages that it can cause to the average citizen that is careless about their diet. “Learning that high cholesterol can cause the death of brain cells really makes us think twice about the foods we eat,” commented Noemi Padilla, co-host of “La Voz del Mañana.”
In reality, most people do not worry about the nutritional value of their meal as much as they do about the taste. Latino cuisine is very tasteful and appealing; but even a good thing, in excess, can be a bad thing.
Thanks to the efforts of the Health Committee, and their educational contribution, our community can look forward to a healthier lifestyle.
