San Diego Chapter Unveiling
San Diego, Calif. – This past June 6th 2009, the Association of Professionals and Students (APS) continued its growth in the United States by establishing its 2nd APS Chapter in the region of San Diego. The San Diego unveiling was host to community representatives from the San Diego, Escondido, National City and the growing Oceanside area that will form part of the service area that the San Diego Chapter will cover.
APS President, Yobany E. Chacon, unveiled the opening of the San Diego chapter and announced the appointment of the Chapter’s 1st Director, Alva Monsalvo. Ms. Monsalvo is a current University of California, San Diego (UCSD) student and has been an active member of APS in the San Diego area and has served as part of our APS Staff.
During the formal announcement of the Chapter unveiling, Mr. Chacon emphasized the importance of not only establishing a chapter, but also, the important effect that the projects that the APS Chapter can have in the community. The goal is to continue to improve the resources of the community and instill in the students the importance of pursuing and attaining a higher level of education. These actions will create a mechanism of success for the San Diego community that has been lacking and will improve the resources that are available in the future.
Over the last 3 years, the San Diego community has been a proud host to a number of APS events that include; two community health fairs, the Cesar E. Chavez Community Commemoration Parade, and an APS Regional Conference. APS’ goal is to continue to cultivate the importance of an education to its members and also emphasize the need to pursue community projects that will be of benefit to the residents and business leaders of the chapter’s service area.
APS is proud to announce its 2nd Regional Chapter and its goal to continue to expand. APS is looking forward to continue its growth within the United States in the coming months.
