“POR LA SALUD DE SAN DIEGO” HEALTH FAIR A GREAT SUCCESS
San Diego, California—More than 1,000 San Diego community
members attended the “Por La Salud de San Diego” Health Fair in Chicano Park on Saturday March 29th, 2008. The fair, sponsored by the Association of Professionals and Students, seeks to address health care issues in lower income families by offering a number of free health services to the community at no cost whatsoever.
Among the day's attendants was Barrio Logan District Councilmember Ben Hueso who spoke a few words to the fair's participants.
The fair hosted various medical and health oriented enterprises, including the San Diego County Health Dept., along with the 24 hr. Fitness, Family Health Centers of San Diego, and Better Life Chiropractor and Community Health Groups that provided no cost services to participants such as: body mass index screening (BMI) and blood pressure screenings. Licensed nutritionists and doctors were also on hand to provide helpful advice to mothers regarding healthy eating habits for growing children. These services helped further encourage fair participants maintain a healthy lifestyle by alerting them of the dangers of high cholesterol food consumption and its effect on the human body.
Children enjoyed the many fun activities provided by the fair including face painting, jumpers, story telling. For the adults, live entertainment consisting of musical and dance performances of local reggae and hip hop groups livened the atmosphere.
