APS at Stanford University
December 2, 2008 Palo Alto- More than 80 high school students from Northern CA arrived at Stanford University Tuesday morning, for a campus tour. The Association of Professionals and Students (APS) and the university staff organized the event with the purpose of sparking a dream for a professional career in each of these students.
This is the first time in four years, that APS invited high school students to the University of Stanford from cities like San Francisco, Alameda, Sacramento, Rodeo, and San Jose.
Upon arrival, the students were split into two groups to participate in a campus tour and a visit to the Hoover Tower. In between group rotations, the students gathered at the Wilbur dining hall to enjoy a buffet-style lunch, followed by a campus tour for the second group.
Once the tours ended, the Stanford staff provided a one-hour information session about application requirements followed by a 30-minute session of questions and answers with a student panel of current Stanford undergraduates.
A video of the history of APS was then presented to these northern California students-most of them new to the organization.
The day was finalized in San Jose where the members of Light of the World Church provided a delicious dinner for all the students. From follow up conversations with some of the attendees, the event resulted in inspiration and enthusiasm.
